XCR Airport Participates in the 2D X‑Ray Imaging Challenge to Strengthen Security

XCR Airport (formerly Vatry Airport) is taking part in the inaugural 2D X‑Ray Imaging Challenge 2025–2026, aimed at enhancing the skills of security officers in analyzing X‑ray images.
XCR Airport announced its participation in the 2D X‑Ray Imaging Challenge 2025–2026, a French‑speaking competition bringing together around twenty airports with the shared goal of improving the effectiveness of security checks at carry‑on baggage screening points.

The event, organized by the Challenge Imaging Organizing Committee (COCI), includes an initial online round on 10 December 2025 and a final phase from 9 to 13 March 2026 at Paris – Charles de Gaulle Airport, where the top-ranked teams will compete in person.

The competition is based on exercises in analyzing X‑ray images using the LOGYX Detect software. Participating officers must quickly determine whether a bag is clear or suspicious and accurately locate and identify categories of threats — weapons, liquids, explosives, or sharp objects — under strict time constraints.

For this first edition, XCR Airport has partnered with its security provider SECURUS to form a dedicated team of officers representing the airport in the challenge. The aim is both to strengthen individual operator skills and to contribute to the standardization of best practices among participating airports.

This initiative is part of XCR Airport’s proactive approach to airport security, designed to provide passengers with a safer and more controlled travel environment, while highlighting the expertise and responsiveness of its teams in the face of potential threats. XCR Airport continues to demonstrate its commitment to secure and reliable airport screening, benefiting travelers and partners alike.

Vatry Airport Becomes XCR Airport, Aiming for a More International Image

Châlons-Vatry Airport, formerly commercially known as “Paris-Vatry,” has adopted a new identity — XCR Airport — to strengthen its visibility and appeal beyond regional borders.
Located in the Marne department in the Grand Est region, Châlons-Vatry Airport has undergone a brand overhaul, officially adopting the name XCR Airport. Implemented in 2024, this change aims to reposition the airport in a competitive context and clarify its identity for both travelers and business partners.

Historically called “Paris-Vatry Airport” for purely commercial reasons, despite being nearly 150 km from Paris, the airport has gradually abandoned this name to establish itself as a standalone infrastructure centered on the Champagne-Ardenne region. The name XCR Airport is part of this broader marketing strategy, eliminating confusion with the major Parisian hubs.

This rebranding comes as the airport seeks to diversify its activities, including passenger transport, air freight, business flights, and flight training. With a 3,860-meter runway capable of accommodating long-haul flights, the airport has significant development potential to attract new operators.

The adoption of the XCR Airport name is also accompanied by enhanced communication efforts, including a modernized website and a more coherent visual identity, designed to appeal to both airlines and leisure or business travelers.

While the airport faces structural challenges — notably the departure of Ryanair due to rising aviation taxes — this repositioning marks a strategic step to revive activity and better capture new traffic opportunities. Ryanair accounted for up to 85% of passenger traffic in 2024, making it imperative for the airport to find alternatives quickly.

In summary, the transformation of Vatry Airport into XCR Airport reflects the management’s desire to move away from a purely regional model or ambiguous geographic branding, toward a clearer, more international brand capable of engaging a broader range of aviation stakeholders.
